Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Support Opportunities

For those interested in supporting our agency efforts through opportunities that only require completing

Volunteer Orientation.

Commitment Level: Medium

Cafeteria Aide: Assists the Kitchen Manager to prepare, serve, and clean up meals for clients and their children. Also helps in maintaining the cafeteria facility.

Cleaning Aide: Contribute to maintain the RCC facility by completing general cleaning duties like dusting, cleaning windows, trash removal, vacuuming/mopping floors, and tidying in general.

Community Outreach Partner: Represent RCC in the community at outreach and awareness events. Help to spread the word about special events, donation opportunities, and prevention efforts.

Administrative Assistant: Support RCC staff in our administration building by assisting with clerical duties such as making copies, completing data entry, organizing donations, preparing bulk mailings, etc. 

Maintenance Team: Perform light and general maintenance at our Shelter and other facilities. Maintenance volunteers are called on a rotating, as-needed basis.

Resale Store Opportunities

For those interested in assisting at any of our four Resale Store locations in Galveston, La Marque, or League City. Submitting a volunteer application and passing a background check required. Training provided on the job.

Commitment Level: Flexible

Resale Aide: Sort incoming donations, organize inventory in the store, and assist Resale staff with daily tasks. 

Direct Service Opportunities

For those interested in becoming more involved with RCC clients, the following opportunities are available after you complete Volunteer Orientation and an additional 20-hour training.

Commitment Level: High

Must be at least 18 years old

Reception Assistant: Welcomes and directs non-residential clients and walk-in's at our administrative building. Assists with clerical duties and receives donations from the community. 

Shelter Aide: Help to maintain a warm and inviting environment in our Shelter by tidying common spaces, assisting with light cleaning tasks, organizing donations and supplies, preparing bedrooms for new clients, etc. 

Children's Aide: Assist with the care and supervision of children in our Shelter. Facilitate age appropriate games and activities. Tidy and sanitize toys and supplies in the Children's Room. 

After School Tutor: Assist school age children with their homework. 

Client Activities Facilitator: Plan and implement activities for our clients such as games, movies, arts & crafts, holiday parties, etc. - or lead a class to teach our clients a new skill. 

Advocacy Opportunities

For dedicated individuals interested in pursuing advocacy for victims in crisis. These opportunities are available after completing Volunteer Orientation and an additional 40-hour certified training.

Commitment Level: High

Must be at least 18 years old

Hotline Advocate: Answer and direct calls on our 24-hour Crisis Hotline. Assists Hotline Specialist staff with various tasks to serve our clients.

Medical Accompaniment Advocate: Volunteer for on-call shifts with RCC's sexual assault response team to response to calls from victims in crisis. Accompany victims at the hospital and record initial intake information. Empower and support victims during the sexual assault exam.
