VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Can you help us, help others?
The Resource and Crisis Center is hoping to recruit several direct service volunteers. We provide training and support to all our volunteers. Direct service volunteers provide crisis intervention, accompaniment to the police department, hospitals, emotional and court related support for victims of domestic and sexual assault.
We also need Hotline Volunteers who answer the crisis hotline and Court Monitor Volunteers who provide emotional and court related support.

Volunteers: Have Hearts of Gold, Helping People, Young and Old:
Volunteers are essential in providing services to Survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Volunteers are recruited and trained to be of assistance to both staff and victims. They are utilized in areas that best match their skills, training, and interests. Volunteers work in all facets of the agency including: Hotline, Youth Services, Sexual Assault Intervention and Prevention Services, Court Accompaniment, and Special Events. Potential volunteers must meet the agency's volunteer requirements.
Volunteer Requirements:
All potential volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application form. Those volunteers wishing to provide Direct Service must complete thirty five -hour training. To volunteer for the CASA Services, must complete a thirty-hour training. Trainings are held periodically February through October in Galveston, and on the Mainland. Descriptions of Volunteer Opportunities:
Hotline:
The agency's hotline is answered in person 24 hours a day every day of the year. Volunteers utilize active listening skills to assist clients and provide referrals when appropriate.
CASA:
Court Appointed Special Advocate…is an Adult willing to stand up for an abused or neglected child. A CASA volunteer is appointed by a judge to provide factual information on behalf of a child caught in a difficult legal process. A CASA can make the single greatest difference in the life of a child.
Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention:
Volunteers are utilized as advocates providing 24-hour response to sexual assault victims at the local Hospitals. Volunteers provide victims support, information regarding agency services, and advocacy for the client throughout the criminal justice process.
Education Department:
Educating the community of Galveston County is essential in accomplishing our mission…Through The schools, booths at various functions, group presentations, brochure distribution, and many other possibilities. We can do this with the help of a few dedicated people.
Youth Services:
Volunteers are necessary to keep the many children the agency serves busy and happy. Volunteers read to the children, assist with arts and crafts, play games, and provide childcare so mom can attend group counseling or parenting courses. We also Welcome those who provide professional youth services.
Special Events:
Groups may present an idea or project they wish to perform for the agency. If your group, organization, or business has an interest in assisting the agency please contact the volunteer coordinator at (409)763-1441 ext. 109. We have many events through out the year that we need our whole volunteer staff (those who are available) to help.
Donations:
Volunteers are of great assistance in helping to gather and sort donated items. These must be sorted on a regular basis, clothes folded/hung up, and household items kept organized. This is a never-ending endeavor that is always in need of volunteers.
Court Accompaniment:
The legal system can be daunting. Volunteers accompany clients to court to be a support during the legal process.
Administrative Support:
Volunteers who are comfortable around the office, filing, data entry, programming, computer repair and many other opportunities.
Building and Yard Maintenance:
We have an ongoing need for these services for all of our Properties, both inside and out.
